Baptist Care SA’s Westcare Centre Luncheon Friday 30th May.
Andrew, Brian, and Margie were pleased to attend the luncheon at Westcare Centre.
It was an opportunity to hear about the services provided by Baptist Care. The facilities are a blessing for rough sleepers. The Centre provide showers, washing machines and breakfast and lunch.. The Centre also provides medical care with a doctor and or Registered Nurse.
The facility is a very calm and relaxing setting. Clients are treated with respect and dignity. It is a chance for people to connect with each other and seek out staff to help with the many different matters concerning paperwork and medical attention.
During winter when the temperature is low, camp beds are set up in Church the hall to enable rough sleepers to have a warm and comfortable sleep out of the cold and rain.
The staff are amazing and very dedicated to the work they do.
The Rotary Club of Burnside value their connection to Baptist Care. In the past the club has donated sleeping bags, sleeping mats and Emergency food parcels.
The lunch was prepared by the in-house Chef, Gary. He did an amazing job with an array of shared platters and salads. Thank you to Gary.
During the lunch there were many different speakers, talking about the many different services and projects. The guest speaker was Amanda Vivian, Chief Strategy and Customer Officer.
Of particular interest was the Tumbelin Farm, creating new pathways for young lives. The farm is helping young South Australians overcome addiction ad build brighter futures. It is in the Adelaide Hills and is the first residential adventure therapy program for young people aged 16-24.
A quote from one resident:
“The staff here believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself”
Josh, former resident, is now employed full-time and starting an apprenticeship.
The luncheon was a truly inspiring event and a privilege to be there.
Thank you to Baptist Care SA’s Westcare Centre for inviting us to attend.
The Rotary club of Burnside look forward to a long and productive association.
We aim to help where possible to help those in need.
