This month, I’m proud to recognise the Rotary Club of Burnside, celebrating an impressive 50 years of dedicated service to our community.

Since its establishment in 1975, the Rotary Club of Burnside has been a cornerstone of community engagement, embodying the Rotary motto: “Service Above Self.” Their contributions span far and wide — from grassroots community efforts to impactful international projects — all driven by a commitment to making a positive difference.

Over the decades, the Club has supported vital initiatives including the Burnside CFS, Meals on Wheels, St Patrick’s Special Needs School, Burnside Hospital, and emergency appeals for bushfire and drought relief. Internationally, they’ve made a real impact through humanitarian and medical aid, such as the global fight against polio, disaster relief efforts, and programs providing life-saving care to those in need.

Recently, the club was awarded Community Event of the Year for 2024 by the City of Burnside for their much loved Seniors Christmas Luncheon. The annual event brings together 150 senior citizens for a festive celebration, and highlights the Club’s dedication to fostering community spirit.

They’ve also been recognised for their environmental leadership, receiving a City of Burnside Environment Award, and hosting the Leadership in Conservation and Volunteer of the Parks Awards — supporting ongoing conservation and revegetation projects across South Australia.

Their partnerships with organisations such as Catherine House, and Baptist Care have enabled direct support for individuals experiencing homelessness and domestic violence — reflecting their deep care for those doing it tough.

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Burnside on their 50th Birthday. A key contributor that has helped so many in our local community. Here is to 50 more years!
