Community Wellness Hub Thursday 16th October 2025.
Numbers continue to be down, but a few people are recovering from illness. It was still a lively day full of chatter and fellowship. Guest speaker was Clinical Nurse Consultant Jo Dalton from the Stroke Association.
Many people do not like to think about the possibility of having a stroke so can be ill informed on the symptoms and types of strokes. Jo gave a detailed list of symptoms and the need for urgent medical care. The sooner a patient can get to hospital the sooner treatment can begin. Early intervention can increase a more positive
outcome.

The F.A.S.T signs of Stroke.
FACE – drooped?
ARMS cannot be raised.
SPEECH – Slurred or confused?
TIME is critical call 000.
Jo then spoke about risks associated with stroke.
Elevated Blood pressure
Body Mass index
High fasting blood sugar
Poor Diet
Lack of exercise
Smoking
Alcohol use.
Jo also explained about services available for patients recovering from strokes. The Brain x Body Fitness studio, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Nurse consultations, Recreational and therapeutic groups, and support groups. Nurses can visit patients at home to assess their needs and then implement programmes to assist in the recovery.
It was a very valuable presentation, and we were all more informed on the symptoms of stroke and rehabilitation post stroke.
Many thanks to Jo for an important presentation.
We were all delighted to see Leanne again with her Chair Exercises.
Many thanks to all the volunteers, JC, JR, Des, Susan, Trish, Ken, and Pam.
Next Community Wellness Hub to be held on Thursday 20th November. Guest Speaker is Sabina Newman from COTA and the Topic will be Fall Prevention.
