The Rotary Club of Burnside with support from the City of Burnside held its 16th Senior Citizen’s Christmas Luncheon for residents of Burnside area on the 7th December 2025.
The Rotary Club of Burnside has run a Christmas Luncheon for the senior citizens since 2009. The senior citizens attending are often isolated in terms of having lost partners, the ability to drive or are disconnected from family and friends at Christmas time.
The luncheon allows these senior citizens to connect or reconnect with friends and acquaintances socially in a relaxed and festive setting. The Club maintains a database of senior citizens predominantly from the Burnside Council area.
To help maintain our database of invitees, we rely upon ‘word of mouth’ by previous attendees and at the Community Wellness at the Hub event. Our guests are invited to the Christmas luncheon. On acceptance of the invitation, guests are offered transport to and from their homes. Those requiring transport are picked up by Council’s community buses or Rotarian’s using their vehicles then returned home after the event.
Forty-four Rotarians, Friends of Rotary, VIPs, bus drivers and volunteers transported, served meals and drinks. Entertainment for the guests was provided by the Burnside Primary School Junior Choir. (John Caddy.)
