Community Wellness Hub 17th September 2026

We had a brilliant attendance at the last Community Wellness Hub, over 30. I still remember the first few months when we began and the biggest number was 6. We have come a long way since with support from the City of Burnside and the Rotary Club of Burnside. The City of Burnside recently added a full page article on the Community Wellness Hub which resulted in many phone calls asking for more information.
Our Guest Speakers were Robyn and Anne Stewart from the Country Women’s Association.

Robyn gave an over view of the history of the association. Having been formed by Mrs. Mary Warner in 1926. The first branch was established in Burra and called the Country Women’s Service Association. During the War Years 1939-1945 the SACWA made camouflage nets, sheepskin vests and knitted garments for the troops. Purchased a Mobile Field Surgical Unit and a Training Aircraft for the RAAF at Parafield.
In 1951 the SACWA purchased a house at 30 Dequetteville Terrace as accommodation for Members when in Adelaide. They helped people who suffered great loss after 1955 Black Sunday bushfires. 1972 the Family Emergency Aid Fund was established. The fund provides small grants for people in both rural and urban communities who are need due to a natural disaster. For the last 26 years SACWA has continued to offer a diverse range of service and lobbying activities, holiday houses, handicraft instruction and advocating for improved health services.
I think we were all surprised at the amount of activities the SACWA are involved in to health rural and urban communities.

Robyn Stewart SACWA

Thank you to Robyn and Anne for educating the group on the community involvement of the SACWA. It is inspiring to see the Association so active within the Urban and Rural communities.
Leanne the Chair Exercise instructor was back encouraging everyone to be more active.
Special thank you to the volunteers in particular Ken, Des and John rearranging the Webb room so the television screen could be used. Thank you Kevin for organising the audio visual equipment. Thank you Trish, Pam, Steph and Heather for preparing and serving the food.
