Hope

Club meeting 23rd September 2026

It was a particularly good attendance this week, so great to catch up with each other. Delighted to have a special Guest Speaker Wendy Lucas from Seeing Differently formerly Royal Society Guide Dogs for the Blind.
“140 years of supporting people who are blind and living with low vision”. They also provide assistance dogs to veterans with PTSD.
“Our Community of Volunteers are our Heartbeat” There are volunteers who take puppies from 8 weeks to 14 months to help them become familiar with many different surroundings. The volunteers are totally committed to the programme and provide a loving environment for the puppies until they move to the next stage. While it is sad to see them go, Wendy said the volunteers find the experience very rewarding knowing the puppies will eventually go to someone who needs them.
Sarah who is also a volunteer, arrived with Hope, an 11-week-old black Labrador puppy who quickly stole our hearts.

Thank you to Wendy and Sarah for sharing their experiences training puppies to provide assistance to people with low vision or blind and for veterans with PTSD.

The evening finished with the Club raffle which was won by Susan. Welcome home Susan. Welcome home to John Caddy and Des.
